Why Use Asphalt?

Are you thinking about paving a parking lot or asphalt driveway? With so many options out there, it can be hard to decide what material to go with. Here are reasons why asphalt is a better option, no matter the project.

Cost

No one wants to spend more than they should to pave their blacktop. Asphalt is fast and cost effective. In fact, asphalt can be as much as half the price as other materials which, no matter the size of the project, saves you a lot of money. Then there is asphalt resurfacing, which not only returns your asphalt to its original smoothness, but it also provides structural integrity. This results in a durable, easy driving surface even under higher traffic volumes and increased vehicle weights.

The Environment

Asphalt is the most eco-friendly paving option. Not only does it take less energy to produce, but asphalt is also porous (full of holes) which helps the environment by filtering rain water. Asphalt is also 100% recyclable, which means this material will takes up limited landfill space. In face, you are trying to get LEED certification (a certification that states that your building is energy efficient) for a building, including asphalt is recommended.

Durability

Asphalt is one of the longest lasting paving choices. Asphalt resurfacing adds on to the life of your asphalt by continuously replacing at surface level. Asphalt is made using aggregate and it’s binder is bitumen, which is derived from crude oil. When you are building, hot asphalt (bitumen mixed with fine aggregate) is poured into a bed of a heavier aggregate and then pressed into it with a steam roller. When the asphalt cools to air temperature, it is strong enough to withstand automobile traffic. Plus because asphalt is hard and durable, it still offered flexibility to accommodate imperfections in the foundation it is laid upon. With regular maintenance, your asphalt can easily last 20 years.

Weather Friendly

We already talked about how asphalt is a porous surface that filters rainwater, but it is also weather friendly in other ways. Asphalt is more adaptable to climate change, which is good news if you living in an area where the weather changes. Because it is adaptable, asphalt is a good choice for snow and extreme heat.

Easy To Repair

Asphalt is easy to maintain. You already know that asphalt resurfacing adds durability and strength to your surface, but it also makes repair easy and fast. Any cracks or holes can be easily filled and sealed. Even applying a sealcoat after several years can extend the life of your asphalt. Asphalt crack repair is a simple, inexpensive task that can increase your blacktops longevity. Even if more than repairing small cracks, the solution still requires less time and money.
